以前bewaadさんのところで翻訳コンテストを行なっていたカンフー・パンダの以下の台詞について、意外なことを知った。
You are too concerned with what was and what will be.
There is a saying:
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift.
That is why it is called the present.
実はこれはカンフー・パンダのオリジナルではなく、エレノア・ルーズベルトの言葉だというのである（H/T fountainheadさん）。
ただ、このサイトによると、これにはさらに元ネタがあり、それはエミリー・ディッキンソンの詩だという。ルーズベルトの言葉はそれを言い換えたものだと彼女自身が述べたとの由。
ちなみに、fountainheadさんはルーズベルトの格言集にリンクを張っているが、そこでは上記の格言は現時点で3位の人気になっている。

こちらのサイトによると、ティク・ナット・ハン（Thich Nhat Hanh）師も同様の言葉を残しているそうだ（The Big Picture経由）。
The best way of preparing for the future is to take good care of the present, because we know that if the present is made up of the past, then the future will be made up of the present. All we need to be responsible for is the present moment. Only the present is within our reach. To care for the present is to care for the future.

上記のルーズベルトの格言集で小生の目を奪ったのは、むしろ4位の以下の格言。
Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.
まるで現在のブロゴスフィアの描写そのものではないか…。
